Overview

This section acts as a forum for discussion of issues pertinent to occupational medicine education. It addresses these issues through liaisons with ACOEM and other organizations with interests in occupational medicine education. The section promotes education and training of physicians who do or will practice occupational medicine and promotes research in occupational medicine. The section periodically conducts educational and scientific sessions to further its objectives.

Highlighted Activities
  • Actively worked to re-write the ACOEM competencies for OEM physicians and workers to re-establish an alternate pathway for practicing primary care physicians with experience in OEM to become board certified in occupational and environmental medicine.
  • Worked closely with the ACOEM Board of Directors and the Residency Directors group to get the alternate pathway position paper and many others adopted by ACOEM.
  •  Hold annual in-person section meeting at AOHC.
  • Residents are continually looking for opportunities to do research or practicum rotations with practicing OEM physicians. The Academic Section will notify residency directors & residents of research or practicum rotation opportunities.
