ACOEM's Role in CPP and MOC

The new American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) Continuous Certification Program (CCP) has replaced all of ABPM prior Maintenance of Certification (MOC) requirements except for those ABPM diplomates who have lost their certification and had their board certification suspended. ACOEM’s objective is to help ABPM diplomates complete CCP components and also provide MOC Part IV for those diplomates who need to complete it. We offer multiple educational opportunities to help you successfully maintain continuous certification.

This ABPM CCP program may continue to evolve to meet potential changes in the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) requirements . Please go to the ABPM website for the most up to date CCP information.

How do I track my Lifelong Professional Development Credits?

The ABPM Physician Portal allows you to track your activities that you have completed toward meeting the Lifelong Learning and Self-Assessment requirement.

Can ACOEM help me prepare for the certification exam and the yearly longitudinal assessment program questions?

Yes!  ACOEM continues its popular Occupational and Environmental Medicine Board Review which is available online here. ACOEM is also working on a new three-day, live virtual offering covering topics relevant to the rigorous ABPM OEM and provides sample questions and guidance for preparation and test-taking strategies.

OEM Self-Assessment Tool

ACOEM also offers an online OEM Self-Assessment Tool. This self-assessment review (SAR) covers the breadth and depth of knowledge required to pass the ABPM examination in Occupational and Environmental Medicine (OEM), including both the initial OEM specialty exam and the Longitudinal Assessment Program questions.

Can ACOEM help me meet the Part 4: Assessment of Practice Performance requirement?

Yes! ACOEM offers the MOC Part 4 booklet to assist you in completing MOC Part 4 requirements if you are required to complete this to regain your certification. Some physicians with continued ABPM certification may also need to complete this for credentialing purposes based on state or other requirements.

Typically, diplomates who haven’t lost their certification don’t need to complete this MOC Part 4. Plan to work through the booklet over the course of a minimum of four months and allow an additional 60 days for the formal review process of your module.

Can I use a pre-existing quality improvement project to meet my Part 4 requirement?

Yes, ACOEM allows you to ABPM MOC Part 4 credit for pre-existing quality improvement projects but you would need to provide documentation of the rationale for the project, project documentation and conclusions including how this project improved your practice.
