Continuing Certification Program
The American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) certifies physicians in a variety of specialties and subspecialties including Occupational and Environmental Medicine (OEM). The ABPM Continuing Certification Program (CCP) is their board certification process for assessing physicians’ continuing competencies and allowing physicians to stay certified after their initial certification. This ABPM CCP program will continue to evolve to meet potential changes in the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) requirements .
Please go to the ABPM website for the most up to date CCP information and information on paying annual fee and attesting to CME completion.
The ABPM’s CCP was developed in compliance with the new Standards for Continuing Certification mandated by the American Board of Medical Specialties and in response to feedback from ABPM Diplomates, who wanted a simpler but more meaningful program , and who overwhelmingly preferred an innovative alternative to the traditional high-stakes, point-in -time Maintenance of Certification (MOC). ABPM diplomates no longer need to complete an MOC exam every 10 years nor are they required by ABPM to complete an MOC Part IV project unless they lost their board certification at some point (see MOC Part IV on separate ACOEM page).

Phases to CCP
To ensure a smooth transition to the CCP, ABPM had divided the CCP program in three separate phases as shown below:
ABPM will extend the certification of ABPM Diplomates who are currently certified and are participating in the CCP though ABPM until December 31, 2029, if they satisfactorily complete the required components listed above for Phase 1 and Phase 2.
