As an Ambassador, you'll visit medical schools, residency programs, and employer institutions to share what a career in OEM actually looks like — the variety, the purpose, the momentum. You'll connect with students and early-career physicians, open doors to mentorship, and help build the next generation of OEM leaders.

Student Essay Contest
Since 2023, the ACOEM Ambassador Program and the History and Archives Section have teamed up to host the annual ACOEM Student Essay Contest — an open call for medical and Advanced Practice Provider (APP) students to make their case for the future of occupational and environmental medicine.
2026 ACOEM Medical Student Virtual Symposium
The ACOEM Ambassadors' Medical Student Virtual Symposium brings the realities of occupational and environmental medicine directly to students...no travel required!
Through case-based sessions led by ACOEM Ambassadors, the symposium offers a firsthand look at the clinical thinking, workplace investigations, and patient care that define the specialty.

Session 1: Introduction to OEM – Dr. Pamela Krahl
New to OEM? Start here. Dr. Krahl walks through real-world cases that illustrate the clinical challenges and career opportunities within the field, whether you're a first-year exploring your options or a fourth-year considering residency paths.
Session 2: Heavy Metal Exposure in a Hospital Setting – Dr. Ngozi U. Obi
A routine safety evaluation uncovers a heavy metal exposure risk hiding in a medical center's mold room. Dr. Obi walks through the full OEM investigation from exposure assessment and biologic monitoring to OSHA standards and the decision to discontinue surveillance after sustained normal results.
Session 3: Post-Deployment Health and Veterans' Care – Dr. Michelle Robertson
From burn pit exposures to the lasting health legacy of 9/11, Dr. Robertson draws on her experience with the World Trade Center Medical Monitoring and Treatment Program and the VA's Burn Pit Center of Excellence to show how OEM physicians evaluate and treat Veterans exposed to military environmental hazards.
