ACOEM and ICOH Strengthen Global Collaboration in Occupational Health
The International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH) and ACOEM have taken an important step toward deeper global collaboration with the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) focused on advancing occupational health, safety, and social protection in working life.
The agreement was formalized during the ICOH Midterm Meeting which was held in Naples, Italy in late 2025. The MOU reflects a shared recognition that many of today’s workplace health challenges are global and that meaningful progress depends on collaboration across borders.
Founded in 1906 in Milan, ICOH is the world’s leading international scientific society dedicated to occupational health and safety. With more than 2,000 members representing over 110 countries, ICOH has long played a central role in advancing research, education, and professional practice in occupational health worldwide. The new agreement builds on that legacy while aligning closely with ACOEM’s mission to promote worker health through education, research, and advocacy.
Through the MOU, ACOEM and ICOH will collaborate on research, education, training, and professional exchange. Planned activities include sharing scientific information and strategic resources, participating in joint meetings and congresses, and exploring opportunities for joint publications, guidelines, and position statements.
These efforts aim to strengthen the evidence base and practical impact of occupational and environmental medicine on a global scale.
“This Memorandum reflects the natural alignment between our organizations,” said ACOEM President Laura Gillis, MD, MPH, FACOEM. “Occupational and environmental health challenges do not stop at national borders. By formalizing our collaboration with ICOH, we strengthen our ability to share knowledge, elevate scientific standards, and advance protections for workers worldwide. This partnership highlights ACOEM’s commitment to global engagement and to learning from, and contributing to, the international occupational health community.”
The MOU will remain in effect for five years, with the option to renew or adapt the agreement as collaboration evolves. The full text of the Memorandum of Understanding is available to read
