Under Construction Healthy Workforce Now (HWN) is a signature wellness initiative of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM). This initiative recognizes the workplace as a critical location for achieving the goals of health care reform and for improving the overall health of employees and their families. The HWN initiative is intended to: Raise awareness among policy makers, thought-leaders and others of the critical nature of the workplace in improving the overall health of employees and their families; Advocate for, and support effective implementation of, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act by leveraging the unique expertise of occupational medicine physicians in managing population health especially as it relates to such evolving concepts as accountable care organizations (ACOs) and the patient-centered medical home (PCMH); and Provide state-of-the-art of support tools to those on the “front line” of establishing, promoting, and analyzing the impact of workplace wellness and prevention programs. Without a healthy and productive workforce, the United States will not be able to sustain its long-term health care programs – nor will it thrive in an increasingly competitive global marketplace. What is health and productivity management? The HWN web site has been developed for: Physicians/Other Health Professionals responsible for both population health management and individual worker health; Businesses/Employers interested in implementing programs/services to improve worksite wellness, reduce costs, and improve productivity; Employees workers interested in improving their health through lifestyle changes and/or participating in worksite wellness programs. Policy-Makers seeking the latest information, research, and analyses focused on innovations in worker health and safety. Much of the content in the above “linked” pages is also available for public review.
