What is ACOEM?
The American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) is the premier association of occupational and environmental medicine (OEM) physicians and other OEM health professionals. The College was founded in 1916 by surgeons caring for the nation's workforce ― today ACOEM has grown into the world's largest organization of OEM physicians and health professionals who bring a wide variety of disciplines to the practice of OEM.
Who Can Join ACOEM?
Active Membership
Open to doctors of medicine or osteopathic medicine who have an interest in occupational and/or environmental medicine. National dues are $415. Please provide a copy of your medical degree and license at the time of application.
Associate Membership
Open to non-physicians who have attained the doctorate level degree of PhD, ScD, DrPH, or EdD in an occupational and environmental health discipline. National dues are $225. Please provide documentation of your doctorate degree at the time of application.
Affiliate Membership
Open to non-physicians working in a field related to occupational and environmental medicine who have advanced training in a related field, are certified Physician Assistants, licensed Nurse Practitioners, Certified Occupational Health Nurses, or licensed Acupuncturists. National dues are $225. Please provide documentation of your certificate, license, or advanced training at the time of application.
Resident Membership
Open to full-time residents with an interest in occupational and environmental medicine. National dues are $45. Residents must provide documentation of their full-time enrollment at the time of application.
Resident members receive free membership in the Residents and Recent Graduates (RRG) Special Interest Section, as well as free membership in two additional Special Interest Sections. Please go to www.acoem.org/sections.aspx for a description of the Sections' and e-mail memberinfo@acoem.org with your two selections. Free sections cannot be selected through the on-line application. Resident members also receive free access to APG-I and do not pay the Application Fee or Component Society dues.
Medical Student Membership
Open to full-time medical students with an interest in occupational and environmental medicine. National and local Component Society dues are free. Medical students must provide documentation of their full-time enrollment at the time of application (a letter or e-mail from your medical school with your expected graduation date is all that we need). Medical student members receive free access to APG-I and do not pay the Application Fee. Click here to apply online, or see below to download a medical student membership application. ACOEM Component Societies
All ACOEM members are required to be members of a component society where one is available. You are assigned to a component society based on your work address, but may request membership in an adjacent component society. See the membership application for a list of component society fees.
- Members residing outside the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico are considered “Direct” members and pay no component dues.
- Component dues are waived for Medical Student/Resident/Retired members.
Important Membership Fee Information
- A one-time $40 application fee is required with all new applications for membership (except student/resident applications).
- The ACOEM dues year runs from January 1 through December 31.
- Dues (including component society fees) are payable in full at the time of application.
